We’re getting to the time of year where everyone is sharing their ‘Top Ten Books of 2017’ however sadly I’ve only read 14 books over the course of 2017 so it seems a little unfair for me to pick my favourite ten out of 14, so instead I thought I’d do my favourite five!
1. The Hate U Give – Angie Thomas
This book was the best book I read in 2017. I laughed, I cried, I was made to think. If I had to encourage people to read only one book in the next year it would be this one! This powerful, beautiful story is so relevant especially in America! 5/5 Stars, no question about it!
2. A Quiet Kind of Thunder – Sara Barnard
Having loved Beautiful Broken Things, I was expecting great things from Sara Barnard and she did not disappoint! This is an adorable love story, that depicts the highs and lows of teenage life with an important focus on mental health and family – both things missing from too many YA books!
3. It Only Happens in the Movies – Holly Bourne
I absolutely adored Holly Bourne’s Spinster Club series so I must admit I was scared going into this book – could it live up to the others? It was really good! In different ways to the spinster club series but with the same wit, same emotion and same feminist honesty.
4. Long Way Home – Katie McGarry
This was a perfect ending to one of my favourite trilogies! We’ve all been waiting to see what would happen to Chevy and Violet and wow! If you haven’t read this series I recommend you do! I daren’t say any more for fear of spoilers but it’s a fab book.
5. Soulmated – Shaila Patel
I was sent a copy of this book by the author and I’m so glad I was! This is such a unique twist on the paranormal genre, none of these clichéd vampires or werewolves! This book also combined Irish and Indian cultures, as the backgrounds of the two main characters, which was something I absolutely loved and made this book so much fun to read!
So what were your favourite books of 2017? Let me know in the comments!

I’ve heard so many good things about A Quiet Kind of Thunder, but have been unable to find a copy of it, even from Book Depository! I really want to read this one.
I loved Wonder Woman Warbringer, Dear Martin, and Forest of a Thousand Lanterns so much – they all got 5 star ratings from me and I can’t wait to read them again!
Geronimo Reads
The Hate U Give was on my top of 2017 also! A Quiet Kind of Thunder is a book I really want to get to. The cover is beautiful and I’ve heard nothing by good things.

I’ve heard so many good things about It Only Happens in the Movies. I can’t wait to read it! My favorite book this year First Came Forever by Annie Woods.
Lara @ Words With Lara
I haven’t read any of these…. I’m really hoping I can get a copy of The Hate U Give soon though because I desperately want to read it! My favourite book of the year was definitely Radio Silence, which was also my most recent read, but it was so good!!

A Quiet Kind of Thunder is fab! It very narrowly missed out on a place on my YA list, going up next week. I enjoyed It Only Happens in the Movies too, though it’s not my favourite of Holly’s.

I have read a Quiet Kind of Thunder and It Only Happens in the Movies recently and enjoyed them both. I also read The Hate U Give earlier in the year and thought it was brilliant. It will be making my list of top books of 2017 definitely! I’ll be doing a top ten post soon.

I’ve only read The Hate U Give out of these but I definitely agree ❤ One of the best books ever written 🙂

Very intrigued about Soulmates as haven’t heard about it before! The others at still on my TBR 😂 I think one of my favourites of 2017 for me was Editing Emma by Chloe Seager, a lovely contemporary YA book.

I LOVE Katie McGarry’s books!! Have you read the Pushing the Limits series? I enjoyed those ones better than the Thunder Road series (although Walk the Edge might my favorite of all of her books). I can’t wait for Say You’ll Remember Me!

Katie McGarry is just fab! I’ve read some of the Pushing the limits series but not all of them. Now you’ve reminded me of them, I mighty have to read the rest! Thanks for commenting! xx
