Now, those of you who have been following this blog for a while may be thinking this a bit of an odd topic for me to discuss as I have never done a giveaway before but recently I have been debating to do one to celebrate Christmas with my followers. This got me wondering about the different reasons for hosting a giveaway. The ones I could come up with are:#
- As a thank you. Often bloggers hold giveaways when they reach a significant number of followers, whether that be 100, 200 or 500. Since everyone loves free books, it seems like a great gift to give to your followers, the opportunity to win a book. This is perhaps the most common reason among the bookish community.
- To promote yourself and your blog by getting more views and followers. In my mind this seems like a foolish reason to hold a giveaway as your followers don’t care about you or your blog, simply about winning prizes. However nevertheless this is the reason why some people host giveaways.
- Another reason people hold giveaways is because they have received an item from a company or publishers to give away to their followers. This is usually for companies to promote their books or products and bloggers traditionally only give away things they themselves have liked so they know their readers will enjoy it as well.
- Bloggers may also host giveaways of new releases or books they’ve absolutely adored, in order to share their excitement with their followers. This is a really nice idea because it shows how enthusiastic bloggers are about books and really spreads the love.
These are the reasons I can think of for hosting a giveaway, but can you think of any more?
Have you ever hosted a giveaway? Why did you choose to host it? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
After all, a discussion isn’t a discussion if there is only on person talking.
